izakaya are basically japanese pubs where you're served obviously drinks but typically snack-y food like grilled meat skewers since the establishment itself is quite small and there's maybe a handful of seats & there is no kitchen in the back or anything it's all within arm's reach.

In Japan they charge you a seat fee, and I think that it supposed to cover the price of the Edamame. Not sure if the seat fee is itself is claimed to cover the food, because they charge you a few other fees on top of your bill.

I've only been to two that charged. One was On the Border but I knew that. The other one I don't remember and I was kinda pissed because it wasn't mentioned unlike On the Border. Otherwise if you go to a Mexican restaurant and eat the chips and queso without getting anything, not even a drink, they'll ask you to pay for them before leaving.
On the Border is shit by the way because I'm pretty it's just the same Velveeta recipe anyone can make at home.
