Absinthe wasnt banned. Thujone was banned and "everybody knew" absinthe was full of thujone. It wasnt until somebody decided to out some vi tage absinthe in a gas chromatograph that they discovered that absinthe is thujone free, then they thought to check the boiling point of thujone and discovered that it evaporates at such a high temperature that any thujone making it through the distillation was just random molecular luck. Once they proved absinthe was legal all along the market opened right up.

The mainstream 'scientific' opinion on absinthe is incorrect. But so are some of the wildest myths, the truth lying somewhere exactly in between.

t. Someone who has experienced something similar from commercial european absinthes.
