Just got some of these at the grocery store today. This has to be the most interesting fruit I've ever eaten

That's an interesting way to describe "Somehow more boring than a normal naval."

How does it differ from a regular orange?

>> No.13504135

>>13504122
Maybe. It doesn't taste as sweet or tangy as tangerines

>>13504123
It's very unlike an orange. The look, texture, feel, taste... it's more like a giant berry than an orange. I still can't get over the feel of it. It literally breaks apart with the lightest pressure

there are two different types of dragon fruit, for some reason grocery stores only carry the flavorless ones and on top of that they pick them too soon so they aren't even sweet. I grow my own and they are very flavorful and sweet,

This. Probably the best tasting "weird" fruit. Hmart sometimes has them for ridiculously low price (like .60$ a pound) but never when I was there to actually grocery shop.

Are they easy to grow? Do you grow them outdoors? Where are you/what kind of climate do you grow them in

its a cactus that grows a one stalk up then a bunch of stalks pop out at the top like dreadlocks, growing them from seed takes awhile because they stay tiny forever, vt once the kick in and get big you'll have fruit within a year . They are a perennial so you'll keep getting fruit every year. I'm in northern FL but they seem to handle the cold because we had a couple hard freezes and it didn't affect them

In my hometown in Florida the cactus climbs palm trees. It's a no-maintenance plant. When a hurricane comes through it makes the cactus slide down the tree. It produces abundant, very large flowers which are quite beautiful and they open during the night and attract beetles. The flowers do not self-pollinate, if you want dragonfruit you need more than one plant and your plants can't be clones of each other. So you'd have to find a neighbor who has night blooming cereus and get a cutting and grow it. You can transfer the pollen with a small paintbrush.

If the cactus produces fruits they'll all become ripe at the same time so you have to figure out what to do with them. My mom was able to make it grow dragonfruit once and she blended a bunch of them and froze them for use in smoothies.

Huh!
Never saw the plant before. Didn't know it was a cactus, although it makes sense now that I know.

I'm suprised that nobody posted a pomegranite yet, they're awesome but one has to be careful with cutting into them when wearing a nice shirt, that juice can stain like a son of a bitch.

>> No.13514357

I've this to prevent the juice from spattering all over, fill a sink with water and cut it under the sink then use a collander to grab the seeds. It even works in an office environment.

>> No.13514359

I get a sharp knife then cut as close as possible to remove skin, then it breaks apart easy. I usually just use citrus press for juice. Chewing and suckling on seeds is annoying

Maybe little pen knives that could pass through security and metal detectors, but not some proper big ass super sharp bowie knife though I did work for a publishing company when i was a little kid and had to deal with their printers so kept a big ass kitchen knife around to clear labels that stuck in the printer. When printing off 300 thousand labels at a time, it's a real hassle if one gets stuck in the printer, a good knife clears that out pretty quick.

blood oranges are way better than normal navel oranges what are you on

it's a sweeter, gentler flavor and it's amazing
