It's all fun and games to mix a bunch of junk into your booze, but if you want something real try Distillers Edition Lagavulin. I gave it to my mother and she's teatotal. She said "it made the back of my neck hairs stand up". That's from a non drinker.

>Just drank my first old fashioned and have the perfect buzz going on right now, what are some other drinks for this feel cu/ck/s?
Rob Roy is probably the next most similar drink.

Just try different brands of whiskey (or rye) and different bitters for a while on this recipe. Really immerse in these variations they make to this drink. Bitters have a lot of subtle flavors.

Since most people who are new drinkers have issues with straight up booze to sip, unless icy cold or garnished well, you might transition to other drinks with twists, juice and cherry garnishes. I really like a Rusty Nail. I like B&B (Benedictine & Brandy) on the rocks. Vieux Carre.
Once you're done with the bourbon and whiskey exploration, move onto some classic gin, then some classic something else.
If you're always blank minded, throw an app on your phone, and mark some favorites to try next time you're ordering out and/or shopping for ingredients.

Since I live in tropical Florida, anything with limes, oranges, calamondins, grapefruits, mangos, kumquats, key limes, bananas, from my yard of trees, is what I'm usually craving. Frozen daiquiris of all types, frozen margaritas, refreshing mojito, and some other food pairing variations of the above. Fresh citrus is how to make all of my cocktails, sometimes some seasonal lychee too. Stay away from sour mix when trying new items.

I find there are flavors among good beer and whisky that are just way, way more complex than anything I could drink that's NA. Edmund Fitzgerald, The Poet, and Ardbeg come immediately to mind. If they were non-alcoholic but the flavor and experience (good whisky will stay with you in your throat as you breathe for up to 30 minutes after the drink is gone) were exactly the same, I'd 100% go for the non-alcoholic versions.
