Anyone know why only southern europeans seem to think of bread as something relevant that should be had with every meal?
Im spaniard and i cant think of having ever meat or fish in a restaurant without some bread to go with it

I'm Irish and we have bread a lot. Not as much at dinner time, depending on the meal, but it's not uncommon.

well in ireland and britain you have primarily loaf bread, while in romance countries we use bread "bars" almost exclusively and use it almost like a kitchen utensil, to help ourselves with one hand or to dip in the yolk of a fried egg or stuff like that

never saw this kind of tapas, where did you visit?
btw the whole concept of tapas is that they're supposed to be free, but in regions with a lot of tourists they start selling them because tourists drive prices up
usually tapas are just a free snack that you may or may not get with your drink, at least thats how it works in northern spain (not including catalonya or basque country)

labskaus is more of a northwest german thing. unfortunately up there we dont give a shit about most traditions and lots of regional dishes get lost in time. example: im from hannover and the once famous beef tongue ragout is only available in one restaurant thats in the absolute outskirts of the city. same with the infamous horse roulade (although you get some nice fire roasted horse sausages on markets around christmas)
overall i can definitely recommend it though, if you find a quality restaurant most german food is divine, even down south (although the people are shit)

lol this is not true, you pay for tapas. Only place this may be true is Granada where it is common to get a free tapa with a drink. Where are you from?

maybe because it is your local place that you go and they know you so they give you something for free as a gift, look at a menu. there is prices for tapas if you want to order a smaller portion of something

you are the nigger, a tapa is a portion size. sure you can get something smaller than a tapa for free if the owner made something special that day but there are prices on the menu for a reason. for an american as yourself, a tapa is like a small size of something on a menu item

>Una tapa en España es esencialmente un aperitivo que se sirve en la mayoría de los bares o restaurantes acompañando a la bebida (alcohólica o no).1 A este consumo itinerante (local, consumición y nuevo local) se le llama tapeo, o ir de tapas. En muchas regiones de España es bastante habitual salir a cenar o a comer los fines de semana a base de tapeo, forma de comer referida habitualmente como picar o picoteo

literally names 3 galician cities, but i've seen tapas in more cities than that and smaller cities and towns
food in general is served in more abundancy in Galicia imo, if you're a fatass you will love the restaurants, or save a lot of money
