Same reason Pavlov figured out he could make dogs salivate on command by first always ringing a bell whenever giving them meat and later just ringing a bell without giving them meat. It's called classical conditioning. The brain is pretty lazy and rather than have exact functions set up that are highly selective to the specific sort of stimuli that are going to be good or bad for you how it works instead is by generalizing reactions so you can learn adaptive behaviors dynamically. The not very useful (to the subject) consequence of this is it can be exploited to make you react in a positive way to a stimulus that in reality does not have any benefit of its own for you.
You see this in the news every so often when journalists discuss how fast food places trick you into associating their otherwise not very good quality food with warm childhood memories and the sense of comfort that comes with a standardized source of highly consistent artificially designed "meals" that are magically there for you in an effectively infinite quality with zero effort from probably ten different locations surrounding where you live.
