Are all-you-can-eat buffets mostly an American thing, or are they common in other countries as well?

>> No.13411133

>>13411037
Common here but a different name.
In Spanish, tenedor libre aka free fork, free as in freedom.
And in Brazilian they're called espeto corrido. No idea why since I'm not br.

>And in Brazilian they're called espeto corrido. No idea why since I'm not br.
It's only called espeto corrido if they're serving churrasco, since it is cooked and served on skewers (espetos). If it's normal food, it's called "boca livre".

In Finland they tend to be popular near physical worker sites (factories, construction sites etc.) In general as lunch places they are common. There is one chain of all all you can eat buffets, but it is considered incredibly trashy.

Asian/Chinese ones are the most common ones.

Leaf here and like our other frozen brothers from accross the pond >>13411418 it really is mostly Asian restaurants that do all you can eat buffets. Depending on where you are in the country though you might find more non-Asian BBQ type buffets

Back when I was a little kid, we’d regularly go to Sweden House on Sundays (on 10 Mile Rd. and Ryan) as they'd have a huge side of roast beef that the cook would carve off slices and my dad would get a table spoon worth of mashed potatoes and pile the rest of plate full of meat while for me, the treat was the soft serve ice cream machine.

Here in Italy only the Chinese does that.
We have buffet and "apericena"(in northen Italy). The latter is kinda similar but not exactly the same concept, you

>> No.13414063

In Japan we have all-you-can-eat yakiniku. They give you a tablet with a timer, you order as much food as you can and after two hours they kick you out. Karaoke places also commonly have all-you-can-drink specials.

I've heard there's companies in China that set immigrants up with all they need to open a buffet before sending them abroad, and that's why they all seem to look alike. I wouldn't be surprised if the menu at your local Chinese buffet is 90% the same as the one in my corner of flyover USA.

To be fair all the popular ethnic cuisines in the US have pretty standard menu items. You're going to find tacos, burritos, and enchiladas at every Mexican restaurant and you're going to find fettuccini alfredo, calzones, and chicken parmesan at every Italian restaurant.

We have them in the UK but it's only really Chinese restaurants that do buffets, with a bit of english food on them. Usually its food that's sat out since opening so is usually quite dry by the time you eat there, so go to a busy or small restaurant.

Also we have carveries which are places you pay for your plate of roast meat then the vegetables are all you can eat, but you can't get more meat

Pretty sure you can find them anywhere, certainly at least in tourist areas.

There are "all you can eat in two hours" restaurants all over Taiwan, and lots of hotels with buffets in Thailand. Taiwan also has a LOT of buffets where you load up a lunchbox and pay by how much food you take.

>> No.13415147

>>13411037
They're common in other countries now, but all restaurants in the US used to be all you can eat buffets until foreign ala cart was introduced.
