13409961 No.13409961 [Reply] [Original]

Chili con carne question:

what if I add the rice to the sauce and cook everything together instead of cooking the rice separately?

It's all gonna be mixed together at the end anyway.

>> No.13409964

No. The sauce would be too thick, you'd end up with uncooked rice.

>> No.13409965

The rice will disintegrate into mush turning your stew into a rice porridge

Why even cook the food just stuff raw beef mince into your fat mouth and slurp up the canned bean juice

I put Minute brand converted rice into a black bean stew I was making yesterday. It worked perfectly well for that kind of rice, but I wouldn't be so confident about plain white rice. Make sure there is plenty of liquid even if you have to add more, because the rice will need lots of liquid to soak up. I would recommend cooking white rice separately, but brown or converted or other grains would probably be fine as long as you add enough liquid and cooking time depending on the grain.

45 minutes is not long enough to fully develop all the flavors, properly cooked beans (not canned), and make the meat soft and tender. You just leave it to cook. You can do this without slow cookers either by simmering it on the stove or putting your pot or dutch oven in the oven.

I've made this mistake before. Unless you add enough tomato juice or something to compensate for yhe ruce, cook the rice separate otherwise it'll absorb all the liquid in your chili.
You can also save on chili by only using one scoop per two scoops of rice. Basically, flavoring the rice with the chili instead of just having chili with rice in it. It'll make a weeknight pot of chili go a log way.

Texas chili con carne is real chili. So is chile Colorado. Everything else is bullshit.
https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2011/11/real-texas-chili-con-carne.html
I start with this recipe, with some different seasonings and corn starch/flour instead of masa. I also add a can of pic related. It tastes delicious. The chuck is tender and flavorful, and the broth tastes like pure concentrated chili and beef, as it should. I serve it over rice with a garnish of kidney beans. It takes hours to make. It can't be made in 20 minutes like your shit-ass 'chili'. It takes time for the chuck to break down and tenderize, but it's worth it. Have fun with your quickie slop-o-shit. I'll continue to enjoy real, delicious chile con carne.
