Why is western food so bland?

I study in the UK as an international student and the food here (bar a few michelin starred restaurants) just doesn't compare to the curries, laksa's, noodles and rendang back home.

Heck, even the Asian food doesn't compare. It all tastes weird and lacks in flavor.
