The purpose is to remove any impurities that are on the meat like dust, debris, some cleaning agents, cum, snot, piss, hair, etc. This is because even if you live in the first world you can't ever fully trust the food supplier or butcher.
Unless you enjoy the taste of butcher cum there's no reason to NOT wash the meat
>but muh splashy bacteria!!
If you use a cutting board or knives this bacteria will get on them and will splash your sink anyway when you wash them. So not sure what the point it.
Use your brain, it's not hard.

Your article only sensationalized the US issue while ignoring the fact that the US has a zero tolerance policy for fecal matter in food, and completely omiting the fact that Australia, Europe (and the rest of the world) has similar issues, but worse. Nobody has figured out a solution on an industrial scale.

False. Only small scale outliers have better supply chain, and protocols than the US, and only in certain aspects.
The US has actual laws for food safety instilled across the whole industry, and that's why they even test for thread related, and this is why your backwards country has no problems importing deadly shit chicken from brazil to kill you.

The US uses logic, and science to determine food safety while Europe relies on a more holistic approach that is more to protect their farming economy than it is about food safety.

Each animal has to be legally designated a certain amount of space that differs depending on length of animal life, and what certifications the livestock were to be sold under.

It's a fake nuisance lawsuit that was filed by The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
Look up the Physicians Committee for Response Medicine (PCRM). They're just a vegan propaganda cult, which becomes obvious when you note the female to male ratio among these "physicians" in pic related.
And obviously a vegan group has no actual interest in seeing better quality meat products for meat eaters. This was purely done as a retarded shock attempt so you'd see it in sensationalist rags like Daily Mail and somehow would become converted to veganism because you're now convinced all consumer meat products are riddled with literal shit.
That's the mental level these people are on. "LOL POOPOO PEEPEE HAHAHA NOW THEY'LL ALL BE VEGANS!"

You can never really be too thorough with protecting animal welfare, and I say that as someone who eats meat every day. That said US isn't *that* bad. No matter what laws you pass there will be cheapskate industrial operations doing as little as possible to get by while still just barely staying in adherence. We're a lot better than most other nations, I can say that at least. You generally have the benefit of a quick and painless captive bolt gun knocking you out or outright killing you before any further killing / butchering goes down. That's better than most humans get to die honestly.

This is a lie. With this election and all the screaming about how we're all going to die to chlorine chickens and such, I looked into the regulations compared to the EU. The US is far better than the EU in terms of both animal handling, treatment, butchering and in how the produce is treated after slaughter. That covers both national laws and EU regulations, by the way. The only country on the US's level is, ironically, the UK.
