I have one that looks exactly like this. I very rarely use it because I cook most of my pasta in a pot of similar size that came with a good lid, so I can just hold it tilted and upside down with the lid on to drain it completely without having to pull out and later clean another dish. I mostly use it when I'm drunk, desu.

In addition to pasta, I also use mine for washing salad vegetables. I toss them in, run the water over them, take them out, and chop them up.

Also, for deepfrying oil, after cooking I line it with a couple of paper towels and use that to strain the cooking oil. After straining, I put the oil in the refrigerator -- in a container, of course -- until I need it again.
