The price. We are talking about 6€ vs 30€.

Interesting question.
Part of germany is french, so german cuisine is part of french cuisine and we have Stollen. There's also the Kouglof, but that's not christmas-specific as far as I know.

The traditional christmas cake in france is the Bûche de Noël, a roll cake decorated with buttercream to look like a log, in a variation of an old tradition to burn the biggest log you could find on christmas (they burned it by the middle, and put gifts on its ends).
But I hear that it was invented only in the 19th century. and became popular in the 20th.

In the north of france there was also the Cougnou (lots of different but similar names for that), some sort of brioche, it could have been made with dried fruits but i'm not sure. It was a small cake to be given as a gift to each child, not one big cake to share.

I checked amazon.de but there’s nothing there and I can’t find Czech shops, so if you want you can buy from the Italian eataly store and have everything delivered to you. The shop says that delivery is 6,90€ so it’s an ok price.

eataly.net/it_en/panettone-with-beer-and-candied-fruit-1kg-baladin

This is the store, with a suggested panettone. Check the others too it you like, for a above the average panettone consider the prices in the 20€ area.

balocco for 15 euros is a fuckin scam, it doesn't even cost 5 euros in italy and it's industrial cheap crap

>> No.13295586

>>13295564
The average industrial panettone costs 7/8€, then you can find many of them discounted down to 5-6€ I agree but it also depends on what kind of Balocco panettone he found since there are other ones apart from the base “model” like the special ones or limited edition crap.

The only industrial panettone I’d buy is the Tre Marie “il panettone milanese” which also costs 10-13€.

As I said the price says 70% about the quality of the product on the shelf most of the times. If a panettone costs 4€ then it’s crap only good for breakfast or to give kids to share.

However regarding your question, it’s funny because I have a booklet (it was inside my panettone) which explains it. Pic related.

@the Czech anon: there is a bauducco panettone on the German Amazon for some reason, for 9,99€ iirc. If someone wants to try Brazilian panettone this might be the chance.

Uh.

So it’s the same maker (Balocco) but this is a new product line apparently, I’m reading that they make the products under this label in a separate bakery focused on higher quality products if compared to the standard base lines.

Honestly I don’t know what to say anon. The price at 15€ is basically the same as buying it here, so it’s up to you if you want to try. Also check the weight, a standard panettone is 1 kg.

It's goes back to Norwegian pagan ideas, long before that and merged with the rest of Europe's winter solstice traditions, either filled with celebration of sun god/goddess idea, or else superstitions like sprinkling ashes from the log to act as evil spirit wards. It's counter to Christian culture, of course and could explain the lack the popularity, but it's a delicious cake and fun for families to make, so depending on the family it's either NOT at all a part of the tradition, or there is ignorance about the real meaning of it. It's just a rolled cake.

>but you don’t “french toast” it by soaking it in eggs, you just toast/grill it until golden and then if you want you pair it with a sweet cream of your choice (ricotta, mascarpone, Nutella, chantilly, ecc..).
pain perdu is translated not to revived bread but actually just called "french toast" as a recipe name. It is soaked in milk AND eggs, ie forms a custard within the bread when cooked.

Panettone is to be enjoyed with a beverage, an espresso or a glass of grappa, dessert wine or cordial or some sort. Like almost all italian cookies, biscotti, or pastries, it's not overly sweet. They aren't like the hispanic countries on the sweetness level. So, does Baldacco or whatever that brand is make it the same? Yes, but it's dry on purpose, and not that sweet on purpose. I love bits of dried fruit, but it's a lost appreciation.

Kek

But seriously they’re dry because they’re ultra shit and made quickly to satisfy the needs of a mass production, it’s absolutely not done on purpose because you have to drink something along.
The first thing you notice between industrial shit grade panettone and a “premium” one is that the raisins of the first one are chewy and dry while the ones in the other panettone are properly hydrated and soft, they resemble real grapes.
