Because we have to live in a society with people who kill themselves with trash and they're the ones who'll flip out on sugar rush and attack someone or end up on bennies because they're neurotic and stopped functioning. Plus the children who are brought up this way don't realise it's damaging them and they also end up a dysfunctional burden through no fault of their own.
