most cheap honeys are made by feeding the bees purely sugar syrup and not flowers. Production rate is maximised and many manufacturers further water down the syrup honey afterwards.

if you want actual flower honey you'd have to pay more.

>Buy a hive, frames, extractor? Where do I buy the bees and queen?
A beekeeper should be able to sell you a complete set, with a young queen and her hive but you're gonna need
- Several additional honey supers and frames : Choose the plastic kind. You won't need to manually build the wax frame, it won't rot, it's easy to clean AND you will get your honey out more easily. Don't listen to woodniggers.
- An uncapping tray : A manual one and a big knife will do just fine. Just run your knife along the frame to take off the wax as if you were "shaving" the frame
- A manual extractor : Unless you want 5 hives or more, you shouldn't need to buy an electric one.
- Plastic buckets with a tap : You can put up to 35 kilos in one, and the tap allows you to easily fill up honey jars. Don't forget some kind of filter for the wax waste.
>What species of bee works best?
I'm using Buckfast. They're productive, with a good temper, resistant to pests, and they survive the winter well enough. No idea if you can find them everywhere though.

I'm really just scratching the surface here and being ESL is hard, but ask more questions if you want.

This guy has good information >>13238565 but also check to see if there's a bee association in your area. They're very cheap to join. Mine assigned me a mentor to help get me through any problems. They also have people who sell nukes (queen and a small population of workers and drones) so you don't have to have them shipped because if the colony dies in transit, they don't refund your money.

I used to have a hive, but some new neighbors moved in and their dog chewed into it and got stung to death and they sued me.
They won because apparently two wooden fences, and a chain link enclosure wasn't enough of a precaution according to the court.

So after failing appeals I had to pay them 6 grand in "emotional damages" and I'm banned from keeping bees, and they take every opportunity to call the police on me when they see a bee in their yard, claiming I violated that ban.

The only reason ‘sugar bad’ is because it encourages tooth decay. Actually, the true culprit is the bastard bacterium S. mutans, NOT sugar per se. If this and similar vile bacteria didn’t exist in the mouth, eating sugar would be no issue here.

As for sugar and weight gain, yeah sure, I guess. Sugar is calorie dense and you can’t eat huge amounts of it before gaining weight. But if you can exert a little discipline, it’s really no big deal.
