I'm kind of confused about this, why did they expect the family to cook with bulk food? Open up a can of beans and you're eating them for 3 weeks. There were only 3 people there. Open a 50lb sack of rice and only 3 people eat off of it for 3-4 months. Then what? Throw the rest out? Surely it wouldn't have been good enough to keep using for real food service. Everything beside the outside establishing shots at summertime are sound stages. That is how it is possible that the architecture of the place doesn't make any sense. For example in the scene were jack auditions for the job the camera follows him turning right four times and entering a room which against all logic still has a window. Kubrick way of unsettling people
