how does /ck/ feel about spam?
i really only eat it thin sliced, fried and served with breakfast food but i put it on the same tier as bacon or good sausage.
i really need to try some spam fried rice. it sounds amazing but i've never made it and the person i live with doesn't like spam so i usually only make spam for myself when im drunk or need a hearty ass breakfast before a road trip or some shit.

It's good emergency food like canned hams, if you get some power outage or something like that then a can o spam or ham can work wonders.

For some reason it's great when I get this spam, eggs, and gravy order from a Hawaiian restaurant in my area but when I try just microwaving spam on my own it never turns out as good.

It's ok. In a lot of places it's actually pretty expensive, like $4~6 a can when instead you can get pork chops for $4/kg.
It tastes good sliced and fried on a pan or grill.
It's best use is having a few cans stashed away for emergency, taking a couple of cans on long /out/ trips or keeping some in an emergency kit in your car or something in case you break down. It keeps basically forever if stored properly, even SteveMRE has eaten 120 year old "potted meat" (ie: old-school spam) and not died.

If I'm away camping more than 1 night I take a can with me just so I can have meat on the 2nd night/3rd morning.

good shit. I buy the low sodium one.

worked in Hawaii for a couple of years, always enjoyed some spam fried rice/musubi for lunch. cheap and quick

Never get the black pepper flavor. It tastes like shit I should've just went with the low sodium or the original one.

never had it but seems like I always have some in my house in case the apocalypse occurs

>> No.13131553

You should really try making musubi. You don't even need a special press. Many people just cut out the bottom of the can and use the lid to press it down right in the can.

yeah that's what I'm saying.
Spam's nice but it's not "pay twice the price of actual meat" nice.
So I only get it when /out/ or for emergency kits.
You can also buy individual spam slices, which are convenient to make little home-made MREs like pic related.

>> No.13137833

Yeah I didn't know if prices were fucked up everywhere. My dad always told me spam was overpriced when I was growing up so we never ate it. And we were poor poor. Same shit with bologna. You can get real meat cheaper than cheap bologna, so I've never tried it.

It's more expensive here, in most of Asia it's like $1 for 2 cans. Ironically, Americans are subsidizing the feed that goes into the pork, subsidizing the pork, and paying out the ass so this product can be sold cheaper overseas.

Farmers are the biggest welfare queens out there.
