I'd much rather eat pancakes with honey and blueberries than oatmeal with honey and blueberries.

Pancakes are way more processed than oatmeal. You're contradicting yourself.

>It tastes like cardboard
Add salt and cook it in milk. Tastes pretty good just like that.

>and has worse texture.
Try instant oatmeal or making it from oat flour. A lot of people say it's not as good but I actually prefer the texture of instant compared to quick oats or steel-cut. And make it a little thicker than the package directions.

What? Instant oats have absolutely shit texture next to steel-cut.

>>13112007
Toast 1c steel-cut oats in a little butter, add 3cwater and 1c of milk and simmer for 20 minutes. Add a sprinkle of salt and cook until done (roughly another 10m). My favorite topping is sliced peaches, a healthy sprinkle of cinnamon, and some fresh nutmeg, but I also like diced apples (added with salt) and peanut butter (stirred in at the end), or banana berry.

>Who invented it?
People were boiling grains for porridge (and beer!) before they learned how to make bread, and long before they settled down and learned how to farm. In fact, porridge, bread, and beer are now believed to be the reason we stopped being hunter-gatherers in the first place, so they're responsible for civilization!

Oatmeal specifically was being made in northern Europe and Scotland thousands of years before the first villages. Elsewhere people were using wheat, millet, maize, barley... it seems to have been independently discovered repeatedly around the world by our paleolithic ancestors.
