Most eat it whole. It doesn't taste unpleasant. The chive notes and fattiness are just a bit of a shock for some.

If you ever get one, no need for a knife. It pulls open at the seam. It wants to be eaten, just not by anyone too small to carry the seeds.

If frozen, you'll need to wait at least a day for it to thaw, maybe closer to two if it's winter and it's a large one.

Can also get just the meats frozen. Often includes the seeds in case you want to cook and eat them, and you're paying by the pound for them.
