This is the opposite of the truth. The truth is that tangerines and also california oranges are bred to be easy to peel by hand, and are hyped as convenient oranges for eating.

What the cognoscenti realize is that it is Florida valencia oranges, bred to burst with juicy flavor and bathed in the rain, heat, sun, and humidity of the peninsula, that make for much tastier and juicier eating. Just use a knife to cut them into quarters, or put in the extra peeling effort, which is worth it.

Separate question- what if I just peeled a bunch of oranges and blended them up? I dont like how long it takes to peel an orange and dont enjoy the eating process, especially considering how little food you get.
