I mean the problem is black people make it and they just want the cheapest food they can sell to tourists. They don't care about quality or seasonality or anything just whatever is cheapest industrial grade ingredients they can buy in bulk at rock bottom wholesale prices to cut a profit off of.

Sort of funny that half smokes are originated by black people and now it is mostly hispanics that actually sell it if you go to U st. most of the workers, last time I was there, were hispanic.

They just don't actually give a fuck about making nice food, and despite all this it is still decently expensive.

I think I started with scallops that were 7/10, and had short ribs that were 8/10. I was thinking about the hangar steak, but the waitress said that the short ribs were much better.

Service was 11/10. Pricing was reasonable (to me) for the DC area.

Cocktails before, some kind of unremarkable red with the short ribs, and exceedingly mediocre espresso with dessert. I don't remember what I had for dessert, but I think it was something fairly ordinary, like peach pie or something.

No traditionally, D.C. was the first free area after the Underground railroad, since slavery was outlawed soon after it's founding. It's always had a hefty historically black american community but one which was free. It has The real price skyrocketing in DC happened in the 90s and onward from the Dulles Tech Corridor monies at the boom of the Internet and technology associated with it, even deemed the little silicon valley. A housing shortage in the late 90s and massive high salary careers from tech to legal, finally made it financially feasible to renovate millions of dollars of damage in soon-to-be renovated (or torn down) brownstones damaged from the 68 riots, and subsequent crackhead living neighborhoods. Don't forget, even the mayor smoked crack. Drugs were bad in the 70s and 80s following the riots, which led to some flight from the bad areas, which tipped the population demographic more to one thing further, and the rest is gentrification. As another anon said, no one in the area really did want to live where they can't vote, and the restaurant and alcohol taxes are worse in the District.

Interesting article here, because it was indeed a rapid gentrification.

As a resident of NoVa and worker in the District, let me tell you the tale of two cities. Across the Potomac River, mere miles from the center of DC, lies Alexandria Virginia. Like DC, it features many good restaurants and places to snack or drink a beverage of your choice. One would expect walking down King Street at 930pm on a Friday to be largely comparable to doing the same along U street or 14th street in DC. That's where you'd be wrong. Whereas the former is filled with generally cheerful passersby and families of various extraction, DC streets are filled almost exclusively with prancing homosexuals, media addicted 20-somethings blowing their paycheck and daddy's allowance on drinks for the 18th consecutive weekend, and piss-ridden homeless black men aggressively panhandling. The differences don't end outside on the streets, but are on stark display inside venues as well. Alexandria restaurants typically staff their restaurants with the local youth, comprised primarily of middle class whites in their 20s and English-challenged but hardworking latino men in their 30s. DC does precisely the same, meaning that your food is virtually guaranteed to be served by an exasperated and overweight black woman whom quite clearly has no concern about whether your food is served cold, containing hairs, or even contaminated with rat feces. If ShaniQua happens to not be working that day, then your food will surely be served by Phillip who, taking the night off from getting his asshole pounded raw while high on ketamine in the gay club's bathroom, decides to rub his ostensibly erect penis while explaining the daily specials in the hope that you're as gay as he is so that you'll suck him off behind a dumpster after his shift ends. All this to say, dining in DC is an exercise in frustration and absolute disgust. Every day I pray that, while on a comfy vacation in Balearic Islands with my family, a nuke obliterates DC. The world would immediately become an immensely better place.

I guess what I am getting at is how people act like gays are totally accepted in big liberal cities now when that isn't really true.

Yes, there are most gay people concentrated here than most places, but any acceptance is the result of them being wealthy and powerful due to education and jobs, not being accepted because magically in big cities nobody cares if you are gay.

You certainly would have a consideration if you were harassed about it or mistreated as a result.

They act like they are in some secret big-boys club for being homophobic Republicans in a big city. D.C. has always had deeply conservative people moving here from far away to form a solid minority, especially in the suburbs.
