You should try pouring the bottles sloppily into a glass to release the carbonation. People may mock you for pouring 5 inches of head but for me it always makes it less bloat. All that foam is going to happen in your stomach if you don't do it in the glass.

I've grown fond of thing like ouzo, pastis and especially absinthe. The latter is tastier, more complex and often less sweet, but is also usually much more expensive. Tastes like anise and really "freshens" the mouth. You don't drink them straight-up like most liquors, but dilute them down to about wine strength. Very refreshing.

Try vodka, it's the purest alcohol with least other things remaining that might affect the experience. Just remember to get the eastern euro vodka. You want quality vodka but not pay for marketing. If you buy for example absolute you get shit quality and pay a lot for marketing.
