I'll be traveling through the American Northwest / Northern Midwest for a couple of weeks, starting in Spokane and making my way through the Idaho panhandle, across Montana (Missoula, Butte, Bozeman, Billings) then South Dakota (Black Hills, Sioux Falls), into Minnesota and finally Wisconsin (Madison, Milwaukee). Will also be detouring into northwestern Wyoming as well.

Can /ck/ give me anywhere along my route I should be working in a stop to try a fresh steak or burger? I feel like this region is known for beef yet I'm having trouble nailing down specific locations. Or just general advice on eating in these regions would also be welcome.

Where are you coming from? Somewhere else in the US or another country?

As someone who has taken I-80 across the entire Midwest, my advice would be to not to. It's shit.

I'm trying to get off the interstate as much as possible and find some diamonds in the rough

Also I'll primarily be on 90

You realize that 90% of the midwest is badlands right? There's nothing to be found out there, it's mostly just poor people living in tin shacks and mobile homes and waiting for their next meth fix. You're going to find all kinds of rinky dink small town diners, but it's not like every Mabel and Bethanne has a Michelin star for her turkey club/meatloaf sandwich. Life in the middle of buttfuck nowheresville isn't as romantic as you might think.

Fair enough. But it's only one trip and I'm only looking for one or two top tier cuts or burgers along the route I mentioned.

I've done 80 a ton of times and 90 a few times, and while 90 is a much more scenic drive, there's really not much between PNW and the Midwest.
