Has /ck/ ever eaten caviar?

It’s not available at trader joes or the drive-thru regional fastfood chain so it is obviously a soycuck meme food which exists for the sole purpose of making me feel bad

Only red salmon roe. We always eat a bunch around new years. Not sure how different it is from black caviar though.

>> No.13042594

A couple of times in Russia and France. When I was younger I didn't like it but now it's quite nice. Wouldn't say it's amazing but its good and nothing quite tastes like it.

>> No.13042694

Yes once. It was very good but super expensive. I dont know howto explain the taste, it wasnt like other seafood at all. It wasnt salty but rather deep and intense. Its something about the look and mouthfeel together with the fancy box and the knowledge that your eating something exclusive that makes it feel so special. I wouldnt pay to eat it again but if i was rich..

I had some expensive stuff for free and it was nice. Salty, juice balls. I can't stand seafood though.

>> No.13042751

yes even expensive one
ok but very overrated, one of few foods that imo really is 99% a status symbol

I fucking love eating marianted herring roe raw.

Several times... the country club my family attends would have it on a buffet spread from time to time. The saltier, the better

yes and only once, it was like eating super concentrated fish juice, had to scrape it off my tongue and almost barfed.

Grew up in Russia, so yes.

Salmon roe is by far my favorite and isn't even prohibitively expensive for a lot of people. I get it every once in a while and eat it on some buttered bread like a real piece of shit.

yeah it's pretty good in a sandwich with butter

>> No.13045126

Yes. You have to eat it with fancy mother of pearl spoons or it fucks up the flavor.

>> No.13045130

Yes. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't really good either. Like fish flavored pomegranate seeds.

>> No.13045135

Yes, sometimes expensive sometimes not, none of them are anything to write home about. It's some kind of social activity like watching the super bowl for 5 hours for a 1 hour match and feeling very dissatisfied afterwards, worse if I paid for it.

never straight caviar but I love getting Taramosalata carp roe spread from the local Eastern European market
It's just amazing but apparently there's a shortage right now and it's getting hard to find

Not Russian I eat all the time (2-3 times a month). But real stuff from Russia just once, it tasted almost like cheap local one.

I eat vegetarian caviar, aka capers. They taste exactly the same. Little salt balls. Much cheaper too.

how expensive is caviar in russia and other slavic countries? Coulnt info but i was curious if it was more of a common commodity there than the status symbol in other places.

Back in the day when it was cheap as fuck (200$ for almost half a kilo can).

In early 00's it was really cheap, now it's quite expensive.

I've had black caviar like that a few times but mostly have had salmon roe and whatever other roe might be served at sushi places.

Yes I have.
I ate a whole tin with a friend, paired it with some cheese, crackers, wine and chilled vodka. delicious.

Yeah a couple of times, I liked it with crackers, butter and vodka. Maybe a drop of lime/lemon. It's good but not really worth the price, you can get seaweed "caviar" for cheap that kinda imitates it.

>> No.13049194

i eat it while drinking straight vodka from time to time.

Vastly different, the caviar is more buttery and nutty instead of fishy. I've had plenty of salmon roe sushi and its no where near as good as caviar.

As a kid it was pretty pricey and we weren't rich so it was only reserved for special occasions like New Years and birthdays.
>>13047056
I love capers, but they don't taste the same as any caviar I've eaten lol.

They are selling caviar for 2.99 at the Grocery Outlet. I'm afraid, what should I expect?

Low grade, dyed roe from a cheap fish. It might still taste pretty good, but it's gonna be salty as shit, just a heads up.

Ivory spoons?

>> No.13049397

Had real stuff and stuff they sell in supermarket , not the same things. Real stuff has a buttery taste. Supermarket stuff just tastes like a salt lick.

Yeah i took my girlfriend to Acapulco in the early 2000's and they had this absolutely incredible restaurant called Coyuca 22. Restaurant was straight out of a James Bond movie. Black Caviar was served in crystal bowl filled with crushed ice and some side fixings and a shot of the cleanest vodka i've ever had.
