Remember /ck/, a vegan diet is the statistically proven healthiest diet. It's fine to enjoy the taste of meat because it's fucking delicious, but it's fine to like something while admitting that the thing that tastes the best, isn't always the best thing for you.

I mean, that's one of the things you learn as a kid, right?

Correct, we agree then that no matter what diet you have, the issue is whether the person doing it is a dumbass or not that doesn't understand making sure you consume enough calories, or too much calories.

Vegan parents should learn about this instead of feeding their kid a diet of only lettuce and soy milk. There are millions of vegan parents these days that aren't stupid and know to research what they're feeding their kids instead of just winging it.

You can become obese with any food. Vegan diets only really seem healthier for people who are overweight. Less chance of heart issues if you're obese and on a vegan diet, but for someone at a normal weight it's not as much of an issue. With over 50% of the people in a lot of countries being overweight, you'd help more people by trying to deal with that issue first.

The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein is a modest 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. The RDA is the amount of a nutrient you need to meet your basic nutritional requirements. In a sense, it’s the minimum amount you need to keep from getting sick — not the specific amount you are supposed to eat every day"

Skinnyfat is just as dangerous as being physically obsese. The masai tribe that subsist off a nearly completely carnivore diet are built like tanks and bodybuilders, but die in their 40s and 50s with autopsies showing their arteries are equivalent to 80 year olds. https://thescienceofnutrition.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/atherosclerosis-in-the-masai.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjFpvD0uY3lAhWPmOAKHWatBhwQFjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw2eSqquRN9ro14pRdoobMvw&cshid=1570564879006

A vegan diet, as long as you're not a dumbass and use oil with every meal, is absolutely effective at curbing heart disease for everyone.

That is starting to change for sure with popularity rising with better imitation meats. The only malnourished skinny vegans these days are the ones that eat even more specialized like raw only, or frutarians.

For most people though, a vegan diet is hardly different.

Don't put food in your asshole. Try just adding more fat to your diet.

I don't think going full carnivore is healthy either. Seems like we're omnivores and we should eat a lot of plants but we still benefit from eating some animal product along with it.

Of course. I won't argue that humans are natural omnivores, but the research and nutrition comes in figuring out what people's bodies can thrive on rather than just survive on. And the science is overwhelmingly showing at the very least, that the optimal diet is one that drastically cuts the amount of meat consumed, and right from the mouth of the American Dietetic Association:

"It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes."

I've seen some studies that say obesity/smoking/alcoholism/lack of exercise are the reasons why animal products end up being unhealthy, not that they're inherently unhealthy. With the massive amounts of refined sugars and refined grains people consume, it still seems odd to be focusing so much on meat too.

It's true that the Okinawan Diet and the people that live there have shown highest lifespan of any in the world.

If you look at the traditional diets of more than 2,000 Okinawans, it breaks down as follows: Only 1% of their diet was fish, less than 1% of their diet was other meats, and less than 1% was dairy and eggs, so it was more than 96% plant-based and more than 90% whole food plant-based as they ate few processed foods. And their diet was not just whole food plant-based; most of their diet was made up of vegetables, one vegetable in particular: sweet potatoes. The Okinawan diet was centered on purple and orange sweet potatoes.

Eating a 90+% whole food plant-based diet makes it a highly anti-inflammatory and highly antioxidant diet. If you measure the level of oxidized fat within their systems, there is compelling evidence of less free radical damage. Maybe Okinawans just have genetically better antioxidant enzymes? No, their antioxidant enzyme activity is the same as other populations. What may be making the difference is all the extra antioxidants they were getting from their mostly vegetable diet.

what about fish?

>> No.13035084

>>13035031
Of course we get nutrients from meat. But the argument is whether or not we could get the nutrients elsewhere without the negative things that come with it. Of course if someone is smart about exercise and fast food, the negative parts will be negligible to their health, but is something being healthy defined by getting a nutrient in that thing?

In that case why would we not say cigarettes are healthy, because there's science that shows smoking can prevent Parkinsons?

https://www.livescience.com/15115-5-health-benefits-smoking-disease.html

The crowd that repeats "everything in moderation" almost always uses it as a cop out.

Fish in general ARE healthier for you than land animals, but they easily carry contaminants, and the levels of shit and plastic particles and mercury is only getting worse as pollution ramps up. Fish every now and then is fine, but treat it the way the Okinawans do--a few times a week, fresh caught. They aren't necessary and you can get Omega-3s from plant sources, but fish in general are a better meat option if you want it.

What a disingenious picture.
>greenhouse gas emissions
The majority of greenhouse gases animal farming produces comes from their feed. Which is continually regrown, thus reabsorbing all that carbon.
>water use
If you drink a cup of water, is that water deleted or part of your flabby, spotty vegan body?
>waste
Animals solely produce bio degradable waste. A city of 400k people needs lots of other, far more harmful stuff.
>land desertification
The earth has become greener in the past decades.
>fisheries
'K, but there are fishing methods that work well.
>species extinction
How many species go extinct in the west? You think shitskins care about animal rights or that they finally get meat too?
>deforestation
Big wow, You think Brazil doesn't have the right to also settle it's wild, untamed parts, just like Europe did? Europe is still plenty green. So will South America.
And who the hell gives landmass in square meters? How much is that in football fields?

Most of this stuff probably tastes okay but it usually ends up being unsatisfying because it's either too low in calories or protein. I tried vegetarian hot dogs and had to eat like six of them to feel full. Most people could stand to have less fat and calories in general but there are some nutritional issues with vegan stuff like this even if it tastes okay.
