For me, ranch on (shitty) pizza is drunk or hungover food, but it seems to be pretty normal in the south for a lot of people. Pizza and ranch seemed to go hand in hand down there, and I don't think I'd ever heard of it until going to school there. The dining halls at the university I went to had enormous ranch dispensers along with the ketchup, mustard, and mayo ones at the condiments station, because so many students used it like a staple of their meals. And the food there was really quite good with tons of options, so it's not like they needed to drown shitty prison-tier cafeteria food in sauce to make it palatable.

I've browsed the wine sections there, and the usually have stuff only as low as $7 or so dollars per bottle (anecdotally), which is about the same price as the stuff at my local QuickTrip.

But if I'm in such a store, I'll generally be getting something that's actually worth the cost, like Everclear. Anything else is just missing the point of alcoholic beverages.

High quality wine tastes better than low quality wine, but the price tag doesn't necessarily indicate quality. I usually buy wine from the dollar store (the wine is $3.99 though) or the lower priced/sale stuff elsewhere for $5-$8 (but avoiding stuff like Sutter Home), partially because I don't want to pay more than that in general and partially because I don't know the quality and general taste of the wines they're selling off the top of my head. It could still be a quality wine that you just don't like. For exploring wines that would cost more I use a service that sends you a dozen bottles, which used to come out to around $8/bottle after tax and shipping plus a "gift" like a wine foil cutter or spout. The last few shipments have priced out at closer to $11/bottle, so I'm a little annoyed. But they are legitimately higher quality and higher retail price point, so it's a decent way of trying out different wine without having to guess and spend significantly more per bottle. If you're only aim is to swig it down get drunk then it's not worth spending anything more than the bare minimum. I just like trying them, seeing how they pair with meals, and having something decent to break out if I have guests.
