I used to think my dad was weird for always saying "no onions" when he got Taco Bell bean burritos. I didn't think they actually put onions by default. Who the fuck puts onions in a bean burrito? Why would you ruin smooth, creamy refried beans with raw diced onions? Onion is my favorite vegetable, and I still think that's bullshit.

you literally just add boiling water to a pan of them and let them sit for 10-20 minutes and voila.

You don't even really digest onions. They just clump together into intestine scraping residue. And the flavor is ridiculous, it overpowers pretty much anything else it's added to. I remember someone accidentally left onions on a sandwich order I made a while back and I could instantly tell just from how my usual sandwich all of a sudden tasted like nothing but onions. It even overpowers condiments somehow, which are themselves basically designed to overpower food ingredients.
