this guy , as a I learned later, was previously a hard core Alcoholic, and he has the tolerance of a bull despite being the twinkest man I've ever seen come out of texas. and he doesn't enjoy alcohol. He mixes it with shit or downs it in a second.

He did however give me a few shots of some expensive tequila he got as a gift,(pretty sure it was Don Julio 1942, it was great), so I figured we were square and I didn't raise much of a fuss about it. but, still dude a fucking quarter of my kraken.

The Evan Williams brand is pretty much the king of bottom shelf/discount bourbons. You can find it everywhere and the prices are ridiculously low. I've seen White Label handles as low as $26 at local liquor stores and Black Label handles going for $20 at Sam's Club, but I saw the latter on sale at a local liquor store the other day for $19, which equates to less than $9 a fifth! WTF?!?! It makes me wonder how the owner, Heaven Hill (largest family-owned and operated bourbon distillery), makes any profit.

I've found that beer generally tastes awful.
However, some beer-like boozes are more acceptable than others, such as the fancy oatmeal coffee chocolate stouts or certain Belgian ales.
If you want something with about the alcohol content of beer but tastes less like drinking carbonated piss and more like drinking something that was intended for you to actually drink, try hard ciders.

If you want to get fucking smashed I've found that white rum and coke tastes the least worst compared to most of the hard liquors (if you can't stand them straight, never got around to trying tequila though so not sure there)
Southern comfort I've found to actually be sippable without making me gag.

if it's 50% 100 proof and 50% 80 proof, you have a 90 proof mixture, which is higher than the low one and lower than the high one. This will always be the case.

Yeah, you're not wrong at all. Honestly, vodka or gin is probably the better choice, especially vodka on account of its low level of congeners (good to avoid hangovers).

However, I had a noodle incident with food poisoning which gave me a gag reflex to vodka for at least two years. I'm largely over it now, but I still find the taste particularly foul as a result.

kinda ignored rum for a while, while exploring deep into single malts and gins.
Picked up some rums lately and they are actually pretty amazing at getting you shitfaced, when mixed with cola. They feel like you're not drinking alcohol at all basically, then it hits you.
Pretty applicative.

Too sweet for me and a sharp ethanol streak. Lots of people like it though, so you might enjoy it more. If you like sweet scotches, Glenfiddich is smoother and not very expensive.
