It's great that they decided to make it as well, but there really isn't a secret to making it. Good water and patience are the biggest factors. Consider Irish Whisky-there are numerous new distillers building up, but it will be years down the road before they have something to offer. Finances could kill a venture even before it releases it's first batch release.
So once you're in it, you better be in it for the long haul. And, what's to say that the market will still be wanting for your product; Irish whisky was once the most popular alcohol in the world before the advent of the Coffey still, then the market collapsed in favor of smoother (less character) alcohols like gin.

Im a huge weeb I literally moved to Japan and have been here for like 2 years.

Japanese whisky isnt worth the hassle to find to good studff nor the price tag it has nowadays.

Had some of the 12 year stuff before it got all bought up, delicious, no doubt, but those now hard to find and expensive bottles are outliers.

Most Japanese whisky isnt very good. I have drank a lot of it from $10 to $50 bottles of all the stuff that doesnt really get exported. Its mediocre.

It's just not truly the whole picture.
The top dozens of whiskeys in the world are delicious and well done. DOZENS. Calling anything #1 is plain stupid. At some point, the top 200, 150, 100, 50 are all about your preference among the 4 flavor profiles.
For instance, I hate smoke. Others love it. I like blends to ensure it's right. Others might think single malt is so miraculous, who cares if it's the best, they made this from just one?? Magic. I like it aged in sherry barrels. Others want clean wood. Others want good char in there and the wood sugars. Peat? Poor production practices when roasting. Other people are like mmmmm mud.

Get over yourself. Don't fall for the memes. A lot of great things about a lot of brands and their various products.
