Honestly the kitchen was the big compromise when we bought the house. Pic is from the stairwell next to the kitchen, and that is a counter depth fridge, not a standard. Still it's a 4 bed 2 bath house with a two car garage and nice front and back yard area in a very desirable part of the old city. We make due with the kitchen and converted a storage room in the basement to a large pantry with an extra fridge and freezer.

There are desirable parts of Omaha?

>> No.12773562

>>12773547
Quite a lot of them depending on your definition of desirable. We are a five minute drive from downtown, ten on a bicycle, pretty much crime free and within walking distance of decent grocery and specialty stores, restaurants, and a hardware store. It's a preboomer streetcar suburb, and it's wonderful.

>> No.12773602

170, which is nuts in my opinion but is just the way things are going, a lot of white people are abandoning the outer suburbs and a lot of second gen mexicans with money and decent jobs are pushing up prices and chasing out the old undesirable elements in the older parts of town.

Maybe 15 years down the line, we don't want to move out of the general area, and the houses are either in our current size and range of about 160 to 200 or they are old manor houses in the 400 and up range like this beauty I drive by every morning.

I could do that tomorrow, but it would require moving into a suburb area further from the location we desire. I could liquidate my pension, cash my IRA and savings accounts, and borrow against my index linked life insurance policy and also do it tomorrow, but my priority, my goal is to retire at 57 with a stable income for the rest of my life, I'm 32 so a bigger and better house is secondary to getting as much money safely secured and earning interest as possible. 10 or 15 years down the line when our current house is paid off and my accounts are rolling under their own steam, we will reevaluate. Same if I or my wife see a financial wind fall of some inheritance or major job opportunity. But I'm not rocking the boat just because I dont like my kitchen.

Appliance salesman here. Double oven feature is terrible and used to get old ladies to pay an extra couple hundred bucks for something that will get used maybe twice a year and likely never again once she realizes how ineffective the heat guards are between the two
