Mexican food is mediocre and the only reason it gets any credit is because it borders a large English-speaking nation whose cuisine consists of HFCS and butter. I’ve seen that in Tijuana before, one or two dudes just paying for a mariachi band to play at full blast just 3 feet away while they chillax at the beach. Or 3 or 4 mariachi bands playing for different people all within about a 30 feet by 30 feet area, the combined racket sounded like shit. Plus they go on for 30 minutes. I was pretty high too so it was both annoying and funny.

It's because most Mexican restaurant aren't spread throughout the country. Someone in new Hampshire isn't gonna have the same experience as someone in California. Where as Taco Bell is on damn near ever city. Also the farther the Mexican restaurant is from Mexico the shittier the quality.

Pretty easy to explain: There are 7000 of them. Of course the best to anyone living around Hispanic populations are going to have their local hole in the wall, one off or perhaps a local or regional chain but those votes are going to be split up a billion times. To some Taco Bell is the only Mexican restaurant they know of and those votes will undoubtedly be the plurality.
