any way to improve those supermarket garlic breads?

The pencil sized garlic chip you posted looks pretty snazzy to me.

You stupid thumbnail poster.

Oh shut up, moron. You can't see it's garlic bread? You want a 40000x30000 ultra HD image taken with a $50k camera so you can jerk off to individual pieces of garlic in VR or something? kys

You’re better off just buying a loaf (it’s all the same bread) for 1/3 the price and using your own preferred proportion/selection of fats, herbs, cheeses, etc, sliced to your own specifications. If you go this route, you will eventually question the need for their bread vs your own, but that comes later.

Other than cheese, honestly? No. Don't buy them. There's going to be zero way to get past the shelf stable, sold at room temperature, off tasting, weirdly oily, margarine flavors.

Garlic bread is so damn simple and superior freshly made. Just keeps some heads of garlic around as you do onions. Smash on cutting board, smush into paste with a sprinkle of coarse sea salt or chop coarsely. Add paste to a microwaveable bowl. Add 50% EVOO and 50% real butter. Nuke the bowl about 20 seconds to melt the butter a bit and warm through the garlic. Spoon over or pour over bread, or dip bread slices into puddle in the bowl, whatevs. Parsley optional, if you have it fresh, use it. Anyway, broil both sides and done.

As a forensic chef for the FBI, I’d say a large HD image can tell you a lot about food, texture, color, moisture, etc. Also, you can hide substandard food with a small low detail image.

This, I will never understand why people buy it frozen. The texture on the bread is totally ruined and the spread is always oddly vinegary. It's worse than not having it at all. I'm not even a stickler for tradition, garlic powder is fine (not as good as mashing fresh yourself, but I understand not everyone has the time), and it's easy as fuck to do yourself. Cutting bread takes a couple minutes tops, stirring together butter, garlic, and salt is like 30s, and spreading it is another couple minutes.

Most big name supermarkets ive been to in the US have bakeries and they'll make some things of garlic bread every day to be availible fresh in the bread section. Baguette, split and add some garlic butter spread, wrap in foil and sell at a 60% markup.

i assumed that's what OP meant, otherwise he would of just said frozen.

>> No.12738662

In civilisation "bakeries" in supermarkets would be economically unviable because they would have to compete with real bakeries.

I usually get the kind that splits in half rather than being in slices. I broil it to get it crisp and toasty and then grate on fresh parmesan, lots of finely minced parsley, and if I'm feeling sassy I'll whip up some fresh-made bruschetta.

A so called "bakery" can deliver an acceptable compromise between quality and price. Not all of them. But some get it right enough. And the added synergy of being able to get fresh baked wares at the same spot as the rest of your groceries should not be underestimated.
In contrast, there are dedicated bakeries that are overpriced bullshit. As always, give different places a chance, judge them based on experience and then vote with your wallet and frequent the one that fits your needs the most.
