Why does this one fucking particular brand of root beer have such a weird aftertaste compared to other big brands? I can't describe it, but I know it's there and I know I'm right, because I'm never wrong.

It's produced with sarsparilla, whereas most root beers originally used sassafras (before switching to synthetic compounds when it turned out that safrole was carcinogenic. It also has caffeine in it because of the sarsparilla (I think. Might also be some other ingredient they use that adds the caffeine).
