i can't believe it has to be spelled out and explained that you should find an amount of force that is between "smash my hand through the egg punching the countertop" and "not cracking an egg".
Tap the egg on the countertop with the amount of force you use when the egg doesn't crack. now tap it again ~slightly~ harder, has the egg cracked? if not repeat this step.
When the egg has cracked, there will usually be a central dimple of cracked shell where the egg made contact with the counter top, place your thumbs on each side of this dimple, with your index and middle fingers on the opposite side of the egg. Now we move our egg over the bowl or pan it is going in.
You're going to have to use force again so take this step slow: pull the egg apart, use your thumbs to apply outward pressure and "crack" the egg in half. goo will fall out!
