What are /ck/'s thoughts on garlic press?

Got one last month and I like them, but they do seem to leave a lot of wasted garlic on the inside and are annoying to clean.

Like everyone else said, works okay, but half the shit sticks inside it and then it sucks to clean.
When you graduate from "culinary school" and start living in the real world, you will evolve into pic related, and never look back.

I'm glad you're willing to cook for me for ten bucks and hour, because I make fifty.
Have fun washing dishes, faggot. My time is valuable, yours is not.

You have a shitty one then. The leftover garlic flakes right off of mine like oil on water.

Produces a very fine garlic paste that is stronger in flavor than hand minced garlic. I prefer to use it when I need garlic in sauces or soups. The more the garlic is pulverized, the more flavor it releases so a press will get you max garlic taste and fragrance.

If you think this is interchangeable with fresh garlic you need to quit smoking.

No one who wants full garlic flavor uses that stuff. I have to use easily twice as much of the pre minced stuff to even begin to touch the flavor of just using fresh garlic. I don't know if it's the soaking in liquid, or the fact that a lot of the stuff inside the garlic releases when it's been cut open for a while but that shit is not good. The acceptable lazy way is to just throw some cloves in a food processor. I use a mortar and pestle and just smash it tho. Stop pretending like you know anything about cooking.

They're great if you need to use a lot of garlic cloves for a recipe since the waste left in it is a non-issue when you're pressing 8 or 10 cloves in one sitting.

Just use mortar and pestle. If you grind several cloves at a time it doesn't take any longer.

Imagine having so little skill it takes you more than 30 seconds to mince up some garlic with a knife.

This is the kinda shit that makes people hate garlic. It only takes a minute to peel and microplane garlic if you're feelin lazy.
Pre peeled garlic tastes fucking odd and metallic.

Cutting and crushing garlic are not the same thing.
Crushing garlic releases way more garlic flavor, and may even modify the way the garlic flavor tastes.
Crushing garlic cloces with the flat side of a chefs knife eill also work, but it isn’t as effective as a garlic press.
Slicing garlic releases way less flavor than either of the above methods.
Slicing garlic ultra thin like in Goodfellas might do something similar, but I presume you loose a lot of flavor to the cutting board.

Garlic presses squishes the cloves, squeezes all the garlic juicr out, is a bitch to clean, and wastes more garlic.

Use a microplane instead, anon. They're versitile, lighter, easier and faster to use, and results in more garlic and less juice everywhere.

just chop/smash it with a knife - you'll spend more time cleaning the press than you save in cutting the garlic

If you smash it fast and hard, all the way down, the whole clove is minced instantly
