Is it true that almost every restaurant in America buys most of its menu items in frozen form from Sysco or other major suppliers? Be honest with us, /ck/?

Sysco or US foods. But really they are franchises. And there are plenty of independent wharehouses out there, a lot of cash and carries. But the way sysco and us foods structure their ordering system it makes menu prep a lot easier. I dont know if most resturaunts use the big 2 but they are huge players.

I used to drive reefer and delivered to these warehouses.

It wont be every restaurant but most of the major chains that dont have their own infrastructure and smaller, cheaper places.

Its the same everywhere pretty much, in the UK we have a company called Brakes Brothers who do the exact same thing.

Darden, McDonald's, Moe's, Chik-Fil-A and a bunch of places supply chain fag here
restaurants regularly change up suppliers based on thing like route/fuel efficiency and market prices but yes
you can expect at the very least for any chain restaurant to carry almost a fuck ton of their products from places like Tyson, Sysco, their dressing from Ken's, seasoning from McCormick, shit you buy at a store but at extremely high volume and cheaper prices (shit is BASED when Darden does sales to employees of shit that is overstocked and lie 50%+ off market price and bring frozen trucks in). Anyway, yeah unless it's top tier shit most of your food could be made at home from somewhere like Wal-Mart way cheaper.

Not necessarily frozen or pre prepped, Sysco sells produce and basically everything a restaurant would need.
But in many cases, yes. This is kind of like asking of Americans really buy all their food at Walmart or Stop and Shop though, they're a distributor, are all restaurants supposed to be farm to table?

>> No.12607657

Yes, that's why American food is the best in the world. High quality high standards great taste, healthy and low cost. Compare that to Canada, starvation, or Mexico, food poisoning and obesity

I've paid for one sit down meal all year and it was at a small bar and tavern that sources everything locally and it was for my wife's birthday. Eating out is for chumps who can't cook.

I just don't pay for frozen trash. I buy everything seasonal at the farmers market and cook everything from scratch. When I go out to eat its an event and I spend a few hundred bucks at quality places where the chefs shop at the same farmers market I do. Its a matter of standards, politics, and ethics. Most restaurants pass off absolute slop as food.

The group home I used to live in fed 60 growing young boys on Sysco deliveries every week as well as groceries from the local supermarket for snacks like toaster pastries.

Jim, the cook, made the greatest tater tot casserole west of Oklahoma. Grilled cheese sandwiches, ham hock stew, mm MMM that was the good stuff. My best buds who went to juvie showed me some tricks. Peanut butter and jelly with salt and pepper and filling dinner rolls with ranch dressing. I miss Stone Hernandez. He was a father at 14, his baby mama on heroin, ended up killing a guy and went to prison after he was sent back home.

God DAMN those were the days.

>> No.12610091

Lmfao I actually work for Sysco. I'm a driver. I will deliver prepared piZza sauce and no name 50/50 shredded cheese blend to a gas station, and then drive across town to the "fancy" resteraunt that's 5 stars on Yelp and deliver the same. Make 300 bucks a day doing it too, shits so easy.

fag
you can get all kinds of quality stuff from them, but almost all chains like ruby tuesday's, applebee's, etc are getting the exact same cuts of frozen meat and fish

Sysco sells a lot of prepared food products that are ready to eat once reheated. High school clubs at my school had a shared budget for one big event per year with food and use of the cafeteria, and we ordered the food through the school's Sysco contract. Stuff like whole frozen chocolate cakes, aluminum pans full of enchiladas that just had to be popped into the oven for a while, etc.

Yes, America has bad food. The vast majority of people here aren't aware of how bad their food is. You need to be able to cook for yourself or be a coastie if you want anything decent. Hopefully we can all understand this and stop making threads about "lul Americans"
