In the summer months, I do it often. Cambodians, Vietnamese, Indonesians and other Southeast Asians, Africans/Caribbeans/Ameriblacks, various sorts of Latins and the one Sri Lankan lady in my area all sell dinners out of their homes. The Indonesians have the most sophisticated set up. They don't sell single meals but rather a week's worth of them at a time. The Cambodians and Central Americans cook to order either at the park or in front of their homes. You can get three sat sach ko, a huge order of sticky rice, an enormous order of papaya salad, and a side of this weird, sweet cabbage salad, all for $10.
The Mexicans sell beans, rice, two pork chops, nopales, a stack of corn tortillas and a small salad (iceberg, sadly) for $5.
The Sri Lankan lady is the weirdest. You actually eat in her house with her, on her plates, in her dining room. She's gonna get murdered one of these days.

The various sorts of blacks sell mostly through their churches. If you know one well, they'll sell all week. Otherwise, you can buy some dinners on Sunday, after services.
