What are some soul foods, /ck/? Not just your typical New Orleans or southern soul foods either. Anything that hits the spot. I rarely eat anything not prepared in my own kitchen and while I'm no pro, gotta take risks, right? Big grocery trip planned for tonight so post your favourite or eclectic dream foods.

As a 4chan incel racist I am against soul food and giving black "people" credit for anything. Hope you understand.

A nice crisp green salad tossed with a light raspberry vinaigrette.

Properly made stroganoff.
Serious Eats has a fantastic recipe. I would recommend doubling the thyme, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce that you add, but otherwise it is good.

Does this have something to do with poo, Anon? Bad.

>>12585289
I'm sorry, Anon. Let me clarify. As a non-American posting on a site frequented mostly by Americans, I used region appropriate references. I didn't know people associated soul food with blacks. In my homeland, soul food is something of a spiritual experience for the senses and has many different names. Perhaps you have a few childhood recipes that fit that bill?

A good salad is a good time. Add some seared chicken or braised pork ribs, shredded beef, even tuna or salmon, and it's a meal. What do you add to your salads?

>>12585294
The only stroganoff I've ever had was at an autist high school friends house who's mother managed to make it taste like dust and flour. I'll have to reconsider.

Slovak Leco is based and is my go to for a cheap, hearty meal that really hits the spot and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

That looks really good for a cold winter morning, Anon. I'll have to try it once fall hits. Is it a family tradition?

Soul food is cheap food made delicious by solid technique and proper seasoning. For soul food, you want fried chicken-n-waffles, pork chops, ox-tail stew, fried tilapia, fried catfish, mac-n-cheese, and greens cooked in bacon grease. Collard greens, turnip greens, kale greens, whatever. Greens are a necessity. Just google "soul food plate", and see how six of the first eight images have collard greens on them. Cornbread, corn muffins, or corn cakes are a must as well.

I love collard greens and fried okra, but southern mac and cheese always looks so sad.

My family is Slovak through ancestry but we're part of that middle-American white people diaspora with no connection to their former culture. When I first got into cooking I specifically did a lot of Slovak and Polish food.

I think what you're referring to soul food would be any dish cooked by agricultural classes from any culture. Generally hearty and nourishing. Imagine if there was some technological means svailable to allow you to rapidly find those dishes, but alas, it's 1985.

I find soups, stews, and most anything that can be done in a crockpot have that "soul food" feel to me. Simple, has a lot of flavor, and leaves my belly feeling warm and content. Those meals are pretty universal so if your bored with the ones that mimic southern US stuff take a look at how different parts of the world do theirs.

I love many kinds of food, some more elaborated than others, but nothing comes close to a nice milanesa a la napolitana with a side of french fries w/ a parsley-garlic dressing
