How long should you let a steak rest before serving?
Is 10 minutes too long?

>> No.12559856

>>12559848
10 minutes isn't too long, but I probably wouldn't go over that. If you're worried about the steak going cold, I'd recommend transferring it to a hot plate.

>> No.12559867

Let it rest for about three minutes. That's enough time to kill yourself for eating animal flesh. Try eating some broccoli, neanderthal.

does not appear to be the same steak or even the same cut of meat, the grill marks look different and the cut steak appears to have seasoning on it that are not in or on OPs pic. there also seems to be ALOT more char then on OPs steak,

this is just an observation …..

it's at this point, that you want to FIRMLY press the meat, to force out the remaining juices.

the next step, is to reach for a ziploc bag and a bottle of ketchup to prepare the catsup-soak for the well-done steak ...

>> No.12560138

let it rest for the same time as it took to cook it .. 1:1 ratio so around 8min ? depending on how done you eat it

So you are telling me you have never eaten a truly great steak. You should try it some time. 30-40 mins on high heat ensure maximum texture and tastyness

Yes, I've never had a charred cinder of a steak. Nor have I let a steak rest for 40 minutes either.

>> No.12562951

Depends on what sort of cooking method. If you're OK with a thick sear line and are going for a crust on a thick steak over coals, 10-15 minutes is fine, so long as placed in a warm spot. If you want minimal sear line and maximum crust, high heat pan or flat top sear to oven set at 250 for 1 1/2 inch maximum steak. In that case, it does not need a long resting period, and more than 5 minutes is just losing warmth without carry over cooking benefit and the contraction has already ceased. Up to 2 1/2 inches you will want to look into meme methods like sous vide. Any thicker than 2 1/2 inches, and you're looking more at roasting techniques, and roasts are a different matter.

>> No.12562957

The last steak I had was a 2 inch ribeye panseared in its own rendered fat at that fats smoke point. Cooked to rare-medium rare.

Garnished with celtic sea salt. I've never tasted a better steak in 40 years.
