My cookbook shelves are a fucking horrible mess, but that's because I just simply don't have enough room. There's shelves underneath those as well, some of which have cookbooks, but are mostly literature.
The really old cookbooks are on the top row, in the two middle shelves. I rarely get them down, because they are very delicate, but sometimes I'll pull a few down and go through them. I've actually made quite a few recipes from them, and they've all turned out great. My go-to yeast doughnut recipe is from a community cookbook from 1932.

My first was an old Betty Crocker cook book that my mom gave to me when I got my first apartment. Those are pretty good, some people give them some kind of weird shit but they're damn good for basic stuff and one can build on that.
