When I was a kid I could not abide vienna sausage. They disgusted me. When I became an adult and had to deal with a spell of homelessness, I came to appreciate them. They're so cheap, and they're so calorie dense they stave off the bouts of dizziness from malnutrition so miraculously, it's like a cheat code for not dying. Now that I'm stable again I keep three dozen cans of them on deck at all times, split between original, smoked, and bourbon barbecue flavors, and just randomly stop and devour a can, thinking "I can do this whenever I want. I have all the food I need now, now, I literally will not ever face the prospect of dying of hunger ever again. I've made it."
