tl;dr: is it weird to freeze room temperature beer for a bit to get it cold faster?

story: i bought some beer and i forgot to put it in the fridge, so i put some of them in the freezer for half an hour so they would get cold faster. i didnt want to wait like 3 hours for it to get cold in the fridge. my roommate said i ruin the beer by doing that, but ive honestly never really paid attention to the difference in taste (this is not the first time i have done this) and therefore havent noticed anything
also now i always set a timer so i dont forget about them

I put like 5 in the freezer because my gas station fridge isn't up to snuff. Freeze away my dude.

I've done it and don't think it affects the flavor or carbonation at all.

just dont let em explode.

you guys have never noticed a drop in the quality or anything either? i wonder if hes just being a snob about it

>is it weird
I'm the sense that most people don't do it? Maybe. In the sense that it matters? No. Why would you care? It's probably weird to flush public toilets with my feet but I'm flexible enough that it's literally no effort and means I don't have to touch anything in there.

>why would you care
im mostly wondering if hes right in that it actually negatively affects the quality of the beer and if it was like a known fact that i was oblivious to

I used to do that with sodas as a kid and I occasionally still do that with beer. Why do you think it would affect anything? You're just cooling it faster, not actually freezing it.

do a taste test on him

Pro-tip: get a wet paper towel and wrap it around the base before putting it jn the freezer, gets ice cold in like 10 minutes

i have tried this in the past and found the opposite to be true, it doesnt seem to cool down as fast. the paper towel gets really cold but the beer does not. to be fair i only ever tried it with cans, not bottles

submerging in ice water will chill a beer even faster, and I haven't noticed that to have a negative effect either.

I only did with bottles, which is why I said base.

>my roommate said i ruin the beer by doing that
Your roommate is equal parts superstitious and mentally deficient.
Nothing happens unless it actually freezes.
