That's an origination theory, though, and regardless of it's veracity, why can't you admit that several examples of that form can be objectively good?

Jerky is dried out, tough-as-fuck stored meat
Cheese is stored milk
All of these foods have reached the pinnacle of cuisine at this point, so I don't see your argument that the form originally came about for shelf-life > flavor

Depends on who's made it, and why, as well as your taste in beer. Some are just on the tart side of well balanced, and some were meant to show just how harsh NW/Yakima/CTZ can be. Being the hip thing they were/are, there's a lot of variation on that particular theme - dry hopping and late-stage blending being probably the best ways to get a hop's flavour into beer without crushing it with bitterness.

Not huge on a lot of sours. I think it's the same problem - some people are just seeing how far they can go, and others are following a trend without really understanding it... well balanced Goses, Berliner Weisses, and Lambics are complex, refreshing, tasty god damned treats, but when it's taken too far, it tastes like it's been recycled or turned into vinegar. Stouts can go the same way, but it seems most people have the sense to stop before they're just pouring activated charcoal into a bottle.

IPA's are garbage... Want a good beer? Want to feel sophisticated? Drink a fucking old ale or a barley wine... a beer that actually needs some aging or some heavy grain investment.
