I want to start to learn cooking. I'm married, with three kids (teens) and I just started on a path of self-employment a few months ago.

One of my goals is to start being more active in meal planning and prep for the family. I need some good cooking channels on YouTube.

I found this cowboy cooking channel, which is fun to watch, but not really practical. I'm looking for some good channels to teach practical skills and cooking for 5 of us.

Babish has a whole series about learning basics. Sam does a lot of awesome stuff but it's generally not the healthiest. None of it's very complicated either so if you want to do a big delicious meal to show off look at him ha.

There's probably a couple other ones. Start slow and easy, allrecipes is a decent enough website, but always check the comments for tweaks. Let us know if you got questions, some of us actually cook sometimes.

Check out America’s Test Kitchen. They upload videos with recipes that the common person can make with reasonable pantry staples. They also review different products without sponsorship so they’re usually pretty honest.

Pasquale Sciarappa. Has a youtube channel called "OrsaraRecipes."
Primarily Italian cuisine but i've seen him make all sorts of things. I've tried many of his recipes and they all turned out fantastic. His channel is also super comfy, he reminds me of my granddad. I just cooked his "Eggplant Parmigiano" recipe and it was delicious. Highly recommended.

I was going to make fun of you, then I remembered I'm not retarded and the fact that you want to learn to cook for your family is brilliant. I hope you enjoy doing it OP.

From my experience, Babish, Ramsey and Oliver all have great channels. However, those are only the ones that have stuck in my head, I don't watch many, and I'm going to be having a look through the rest of the channels listed here.

Aside from channels, I would highly recommend DK Publishing's The Illustrated Cook's Book of Ingredients. It's absolutely brilliant, and if I were the ruler of my nation it would be given to every household freely. It's not a book you ought to read through and memorise, it's a companion book. It has thousands of categorised ingredients, pictures for all of them, and has information about taste, texture etc for every one. It also has information on flavour pairings and classic recipes for them. It's the perfect book to pick up if you're looking for inspiration to do something with an ingredient, want to try something completely new, or just want to try out a new pairing. It also has a few pages dedicated to the essentials of each group it has ingredients for, such as how to tell if a fish is fresh, how to fillet, etc. I'm sure you can find it for free online with ease.
