I think it's just a given that people who work in a hobbyist field are insufferable. They lose sight of what makes it enjoyable and this understandably turns off outsiders.

The classics are the barista and the comic book store guy, but there are record store snobs, auto shop snobs, outdoor/extreme sports snobs, fishing snobs, RC car snobs, gun snobs, it goes on and on. If you ever talk to an X Guy about his hobby, it will make you not want to participate.
