It's good and all food makes you poop.

It's only eaten once every year on Easter.

if it's good why have it only once a year? sounds like you're trying to avoid it.

Lots of fish. That’s about it. They also eat reindeer which is kinda beefy. The Finns have never been known for cuisine and I survived largely on McDonald’s while I was there.

Great home food, shitty restaurants.

Food isn't over spiced shit that gives you metabolism problems. If you like your food tasting like what it actually is and not just spices, you'll love it.

>Inb4 mayo is too spicy

Can't you cook your food to be tasty without adding a kilograms worth of spices?

There's a popular Finn restaurant in my town, but they mostly serve Finnish pancakes as well as typical small restaurant breakfast/dinner stuff. I've had their cured salmon, viili, and piirakka, as well as their mojakka, which is just a fairly simple soup. I really enjoy their salmon and piirakka, the latter of which I always get with the Lappi cheese and veggies . And >>12410547 is right, in that it's all pretty spice-less stuff. Next time I'm at the restaurant I'll get the silli.

Stews, soups, quite a bit of game, both salt water and fresh fish
Most of it is super simple in the vein of
>throw stuff at pot and cook it
>taters and fried fish
>mashed potatoes and some kind of meat sauce
We don't really have the most intricate of kitchens. Most stuff that is more complex and unique is probably from Sweden and Russia anyway

Historically simple food made from things you hunted, fished or grew locally and being this far north the variety wasn't mindbogling. There's some standout dishes like Karelian pies, smoked/cured salmon and reindeer stew. And then there's the meme dishes like Mämmi, Kalakukko or even Salmiakki that usually get fed to foreigners for cheap laughs.

>> No.12411564

Just meat, fish, bread, dairy and potatoes really. Different pickles and berry preserves when we're feeling fancy. Also alcohol.

Their cured salmon has to be the signature dish. I guess reindeer and berries from that weirdass native tribe as well.

The restaurant (the Hoito) is even under the Finnish Labour Temple, which is now a museum and venue. The Hoito has been really well known for their pancakes, and the proper Finnish dishes were a more recent addition to the menu (I think). Thunder Bay itself is a pretty cool place once you figure it out a bit, and it's got some incredible natural beauty beyond the decay of the city.

This is a good description. A lot of soups , stews and porridges. In the east you can find more of fermented foods and mushrooms. In the North it's gonna be fish, reindeer, potatoes and berries.

Difficult to really redpill anyone on Finnish food. It's good if you're grown up with it but I understand how it's mostly bland and interesting for foreigners.
