Russian food isn't great desu. Lots of mayonnaise. Lots of peas. Lots of potatoes. Pretty boring, but hearty food. Lots of stews/soups. Lots of stuffed vegetables. Meat usually spun out to make it last longer.

But the whole "soviet union no potatoes, everyone hungry lol" starvation thing is mostly a meme.

I moved around a lot growing up due to my dads job. I was born in the US, but neither of my parents are from there.
I lived in Zimbabwe for a little bit when I was a kid. I've seen a lot of suffering.
Every country has problems. Every system has problems.
I have a lot of problems with the way the world is right now, and modern capitalism in particular, but this isn't the board for that.

But my girlfriend is russian, and I'm learning to speak/read it. A lot of the "offiicial" english translations of soviet documents/news you see in the western world are very misleading. And a lot were never translated at all.
Just don't trust most of what you read.
Look around you for suffering, and try to help.
Try to study what works in other countries.
And racists and nationalists can go fuck themselves.

Even members of Stalin's cabinet had to hustle to eat decently well. Post Stalin the Soviet production line stabilized well enough by the time brezhnev's second year as premier (1960) for people with connections to be well fed.

Generally speaking, not only would you be withholding yourself calories but also nutrients. While the economy improved slowly over time in the Soviet union, it was never as robust as any "western" nation's was at any point in time. Food was scarce from 1940-1967 and never in abundance until a couple of years after the dissolution of the union in the 90s.

If you want advice for a Russian or Ukranian or Khazakstan diet or whatever then yeah, you could live a healthy life off of that.
