12392150 No.12392150 [Reply] [Original]

This is the first time I've ever spent more than £20 on a bottle of whiskey, just dropped £40 on this stuff... and I feel robbed.
I fell for the "the more expensive the whiskey is, the better it is" meme that whiskey lovers on here constantly spout... I honestly can't tell the difference between this stuff and the cheap piss I usually buy to mix with coke just to get hammered.
I'm trying hard to find the flavours described on the back of the bottle, but the only flavour I get from it is paint thinner and regret.

Try a splash of water. Let it linger a little while on your tongue, swallow slowly, and take a moment to savour the residual fumes in your mouth (but don't breathe them in).

Now I feel even more robbed.
Though I'm pretty sure alcohol is cheaper in general over there.

>>12392182
This didn't do much to be honest.
I'm determined to learn to enjoy it though.

Yikes. I'm glad I got my whisky phase out of my system a decade ago

well if it's your first time drinking decent whisky you ought to need some time and some more glasses to find what makes it decent, keep drinking it and you'll get the hang of it
that said, Glenmorangie 10 isn't a very very complex and deep scotch, so maybe go to a bar and order a glass of talisker 10 or lagavulin 16, they stand out more, so to speak, and after you understand where you should be searching those extra aromas and flavors you can go back to your Glenmorangie and hopefully enjoy it a lot more
or maybe you just don't really like whisky, who knows

I've tried many down the line but they've almost always been average/cheap ones like Walker Red and shit.
I did recall enjoying a peaty one I tried years back more than almost all others so that might be an avenue to explore more.

Detemined to enjoy this so I'm gonna sit and sip as intended and hope by the end of the bottle I gain an appreciation for it rather than not getting the best out of it.
I do like the cinnamon whiskeys like Fire Eater and JD cimmamon but I'm not even sure they really count.

Why'd you spend £40 on it? It's on sale for £25 in at least one of the major supermarkets most of the time.

Because the shops were all closing near me early due to bank holiday so I just went in the first shop and chose one that sounded expensive and nice.

If you cant tell the difference between single malt glenmorangie and cheap blended whisky then you are a lost cause, dont bother buying any more because youre just going to waste your money.

all alcohol tastes disgusting, but whisky really is the very worst of the lot. vile. plus it's full of congeners so it'll give you one of the worst hangovers of all drinks. plebjuice.

Rather than just picking something that looks fancy, try doing some research first. It sucks to spend so much on a bottle only to find out you could've gotten something better for half the price, especially if you want to try more than one scotch. Hell, you could probably google "best scotch for beginners" or something so you can find one you're more likely to enjoy. I know a lot of what I drink these days I wouldn't have enjoyed before I'd had some experience with whiskey.

I actually really like that scotch its light and tastes almost like honey. Time and place for different types of scotch. In fact i would go so far as to say that if you don't like that scotch than you probably don't like scotch at all.

its like 45 in normal stores and 35 at costco.

Some people should genuinely jump in to the peaty Islay scotches. If you like dark flavours already there's no point starting with the really light stuff.
