What’s like the standard middle-of-the-road stout you can buy? Looking for something widely available but with good flavor. Tried Guinness recently and it was watery af, didn’t taste good at all

SoCal, Norcal, or PNW? The West Coast has some of the best beer in the world but there's so much that lots of things have limited distribution so you have to be more specific. If you have Speedway in your local grocery/liquor store that's what I'd recommend.

Alright fellas, I’ll try these out tmrw and report back the results. I’ve enjoyed some craft stouts in the past but paying $7-8 for a glass just isn’t worth it for me anymore. Hopefully these still have that nice chocolatey-coffee flavor

Hate to break it to ya, but the most standard and widely available is probably Guiness. Stouts just aren't as popular (and hence less ubiquitous) as ales, so your choices are more limited. A lot of good stouts are regional and just don't have a national distribution network.

That being said, Left Hand Milk Stout is excellent. And since it's made in Colorado, chances are good you'll find it on the west coast pretty easily.

I'm interested in what you think as I'm in a similar boat and from the same area.

Just today I tried stone's espresso Russian imperial stout and new hollands dragon's milk and desu I hated both. The darkest stuff I've had otherwise is chimay blue which I liked a lot and I thought I'd like even darker and richer but I didn't fuck with those two at all. Have you guys tried those beers? Am I in the minority for disliking them?

Most of them are good. Never try this one though. I like both of these things and it sounded interesting compared to all the coffee stouts, but they just dumped a shitload of cardamom in it and it tastes terrible.

Brooklyn Brewery's Black Chocolate Stout is a classic, and, unlike many of the trendy imperial stouts at the moment, has no adjuncts or flavouring additions. It's 10% ABV so take it slow, like your mother does.

I dunno if it's considered a meme here, but anything Dogfish Head puts out is worth a try. The only thing that I haven't liked from them so far is the Sea Quench Session Sour. Normally I limit myself to drinking one because they're so damn pricy. The lime juice in Sea Quench would have me puking up more than one or two.

Extra stout is actually pretty good and is even slightly unique for a stout. More dark fruit than chocolate imo. That being said, most other Guinness products are trash
