I just got into baking. So I basically just let flour sit in a jar with water for longer than normal? I generally stay away from most ferments because I think I'll poison myself

Very nice.

What sort of flour did you use for your starter?

Would you have any suggestions for making a 100% rye starter?

What are other things to make with the starter besides bread? Can you make wine or beer? Pizza crust?

I honestly don't get why poeople are this messy. How did you manage to smear that shit all over the jar? Why don't you try to be more careful?

Pizza crust yes, can't really use a flour based starter to make beverages though. You don't really need to use a starter or commercial yeast for wines as you can get wild fermentation going on them from the yeast living on whatever fruit you are fermenting. Just don't sterilize everything. You can also open air ferment beer to introduce wild yeasts which is a style of beer called lambic beer
