If dish soap ruins your seasoning, it wasn't actually seasoned. You were just cooking on a layer of sticky, rancid oil.

>>12366861
>the factory seasoning flakes off regardless of what I do and it won't hold new seasoning
Does your seasoning look like gray and shiny, like graphite? That's because you burned it. Don't let dry cast iron sit over higher heat. Sand off the carbonized shit and re-season.

they're both 1000C+. the only thing you're cooking at those temperatures is charcoal.
but stainless steel pans usually have a copper or aluminum core that will warp the pan at the higher temperatures.

>> No.12369370

>>12369336
Nobody is heating either of those pans anywhere near the melting point. The difference is that cast iron and carbon steel grow stronger the more they are used, whereas SS just gets more...used.

>> No.12369422

>>12369336
Melting point is like 1,200 C. At which point the pan would be visibly glowing. I don't think the average stove would get anywhere near that hot, and even if it could what are you trying to cook on that?

The pre-seasoning is usually not great, but it's better than nothing. It's good enough on lodge to use as a base for seasoning a new pan more, but it doesn't even hold up to making a low acidity bean soup. I did a few more thin coats worth of oil while seasoning and it holds fine with typical cast iron cooking now. The seasoning on the stargazer pan I have held up fine to whatever I threw at it, but some things liked to stick until I seasoned it a little better.
